Do you have a minute? You could save a life. Update on my Suicide Awareness & Prevention Fundraising Challenge.

I know you’re busy. But do you have a minute? Just a minute of your time. Please.

I lost my 22-year-old son, Jamie, to suicide on June 16, 2018.

As with all holidays since his passing, this weekend has been terribly difficult. His empty chair at Thanksgiving dinner broke my heart. I would have done anything to hear his laughter, watch him play with his nephews, and interact with those who love him so much. I would do anything for just one more day, one more hug, one more moment…

We are nearly halfway through October already. This fundraising challenge has been going on since the end of September and is currently set to run until the end of the month but may be extended.

We are just under 20% of our goal. Thank you to those who have spread the word and donated.

For details of my fundraising challenge, please read this post.

So, what can you do to help?
– Share this fundraiser on social media and invite your family and friends
to participate.
– Ask your friends to spread the word.
– Donate if you are able to. No amount is too small and very much appreciated.
– Let interested people who do not use Facebook know that donations can also be made via Paypal and email transfer at stopthestigma@jenhorganorourke.com.

We can work together to:
– Spread Awareness about suicide. Awareness breeds prevention.
– Talk about Mental Health. There are SO many people out there struggling with mental illness. Until I became an active advocate and got to know SO many others who suffer from this disease I had no idea how prevalent it is. I thought I was alone. I’m not.
– Stop the stigma surrounding suicide and mental health. The more we talk about it, the more people considering suicide and suffering in silence will open up and seek the help they desperately need.

One conversation could save a life. One conversation could motivate someone to find the strength to reach out for support.

I couldn’t save my son, but if we work together maybe we can save someone else’s loved one.
